Wednesday, October 6th, 1976: Don Sutton had to leave the Mets game against Cincinnati after suffering a ruptured disc while throwing a pitch. He will be out of the lineup at least 9 months. He told reporters, "I just felt a sharp pain when it happened. I knew there was something wrong."
This year Sutton has a 14-13 mark in 33 starts with a 4.57 ERA. He has given up 260 hits in 220.1 innings, struck out 164 and issued 90 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .295 batting average against him.
